What is a Polyester Round Sling?

After stumbling upon our website, many visitors often ask, what is a polyester round sling? Many of you already know this, but a polyester round sling is a continuous loop of polyester yarn that is used as a versatile, convenient, and cost-effective way to lift cargo of different sizes.  They originally had their origins in Scandinavian countries and then eventually made their way to the Western Hemisphere in the mid-seventies.

There are two main types of polyester round slings: endless, and eye & eye. An endless round sling is essentially one large, “endless,” loop, the benefit being that the wear points can be adjusted with each use. This allows you to extend the working life of the sling. Eye & Eye lift slings are made by attaching a wear pad to both sides of the sling, which creates two loops, or “eyes” on each end. An endless loop design has a slightly longer lifespan because the wear points can be adjusted each time it is used.

Benefits of Polyester Round Slings

When deciding how to best carry cargo, there are many reasons why you would choose a polyester round sling. Here are some of the benefits of choosing a Polyester Round Sling:

  1. Polyester round slings are exceptionally strong because they are made from continuous strands of polyester fibers.

  1. These round slings are exceptionally pliable as well, as then can adjust to the contours and hug a load much better than other types of lifting slings.

  1. Polyester doesn’t absorb water, which gives it strong resistance to mildew and rot. There is also a jacket that surrounds the sling, keeping dirt, grease, abrasions, and sun damage at bay. This protects the core of the sling which bears the load.

  1. Polyester round slings are extremely lightweight, making them convenient to carry around and store when you aren’t using them.

  1. Because of manufacturing efficiencies, polyester round slings are generally less expensive than nylon rigging straps.

  1. Round slings come with color coded fabric jackets that tell you how much weight the sling can hold. This allows you to see from a distance how much weight a sling can carry. But be careful, 15% of the population is color blind, so it’s wise to advise your team to check the weight capacities of the sling anyway.

Polyester round slings can be purchased from a variety of retailers online, such as Amazon, US Cargo Control, and Lift It. We hope that this article shed some light on the benefits of using polyester round slings for you.
